'Exchange between legislatures needed'

Last Updated 14 June 2015, 19:24 IST

Giving a boost to the Sino-Indian cooperation, Chairman of the National People’s Congress and the third-highest ranking leader of the Communist Party of China, Zhang Dejiang, on Sunday called for increasing exchanges between provincial legislatures in China and India.

“There is need for strengthening cooperation between parliaments and provincial legislatures,” he said, pointing out that he has served in local governments for many years.
His observations came before Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, who accorded a formal welcome to him at the Raj Bhavan here. He welcomed the suggestion of the governor to enhance cooperation between universities and increase student exchange.

The Chinese leader told the governor that Chinese tourists are travelling more and more and that they were good spenders. He said if one million Chinese tourists come to India, it will benefit India immensely. He said that improvement in visa regime will bring more tourists.  Dejiang told the governor that the population of Korea was only 50 million, but the trade between China and Korea was in trillion dollars. He said the population of India is 1.25 billion and therefore there is tremendous scope for further expansion of trade and business relations between the two countries.

He said that the results of these agreements would be visible in the next three years if two countries could maintain the momentum.
