A fortnight after a series of burglaries were reported from Bilikere, Hunsur taluk in the district, the police have succeeded in busting the four-member gang of inter-state burglars behind the same. Interestingly, they had been evading arrest, hoodwinking sentinels since several years.

Announcing this to media persons, at his office on Thursday, SP Abhinav Khare gave the names of the accused as follows: Lokesh alias Ravi alias ‘Amase’, Dammanahalli, K R Nagar taluk; Harish alias Prakash Siddappa Talwar, Jammaladinni, Muddebihal taluk, Vijayapura; Ranga alias Satish alias Rangappa, Dinnihatti, Ananthapur district, Andhra Pradesh; and Gajendra Sinh alias Gajendra alias Raja, Ranewad, Rajasthan.

Following their arrest, the Bilikere police have succeeded in solving a total of 13 cases that includes 10 under the same police limits, followed by two in Bengaluru and one in Saligrama limits.

According to the SP, the gang had burgled 10 shops at Bilikere on May 31, decamping with Rs 75,000 in cash. However, the police could recover only Rs 42,700, 93 grams of gold and 147 grams of silver valuables and cellphones, after their arrest.

Explaining about their modus operandi, the SP said, the gang members were pickpockets targeting passengers on trains. During the last one year, they turned to burglaries, targeting houses and commercial establishments. It is for the first time, they have been arrested. They were adept at removing the shutters of the shop barehanded, without using any equipment.

The police team led by DySP (Hunsur sub-division) D Jayaram consisted of Circle Police Inspector, Hunsur, M Dharmendra, Inspector Gopalakrishna (District Crime Information Bureau), PSIs G Purushotham (Bilikere) and M R Lava (Hunsur).
