5 men plot to kidnap hemiplegic realtor, but end up killing him

It was a kidnap that went awry. Not only did the kidnappers fail in their intended objective, they also ended up murdering their hemiplegic (partially paralysed) victim.

Five men, who had planned to kidnap a real estate businessman for ransom but murdered him unwittingly while trying to gag him at his home in Banaswadi last month, have been arrested from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh where they had gone into hiding, the police said.

The prime suspect, Madhu, 39, from RS Palya in Kammanahalli, was well-known to the victim, Raju Yadav, 51, a real estate businessman from Ramaiah Layout, and had worked with him for some time.

Yadav had hemiplegia (paralysis affecting only one side of the body). He hailed from Seemandhra and was living with his second wife, mother and sister here.

Madhu, also a real estate agent, plotted the kidnap in the hope of getting a good ransom as Yadav had made a fortune out of the real estate business. Madhu thought he could coerce Yadav into transferring his real estate properties into his name.

Friends roped in
He roped in his four friends—Vamshikrishna, 25, a native of Chittoor, Ramakumar, 25, Anji, 30 and Balaji, 27, all from Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh—and promised them Rs two lakh each for the “job”.

Yadav wanted to rent the second floor of his residential building to bachelor tenants. He had asked Madhu to look for prospective tenants. On the evening of May 28, 2015, Madhu went to Yadav’s house, along with his four friends. He introduced them as prospective tenants.

He asked Yadav to show the house to the young men so that they could decide on renting it. Yadav agreed.

The moment Yadav opened the door of the  house and went in, the five pounced on him and tried to tie his hands and feet. They also placed a gag over his mouth to prevent him from shouting for help. But Yadav was so numb with disbelief that he immediately suffocated. Shocked at the sudden turn of events, the five men just ran away and went into hiding in Chittoor.

Meanwhile, Yadav’s sister got anxious that he hadn’t returned after long. She went upstairs and opened the door, only to find her brother lying motionless on the floor. She then called the police and told them about the visit of Madhu and four others.
The police worked on available leads and arrested the five from Chittoor.
