JOIN USHeavy rain continued to lash Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts on Saturday, while the showers receded in the coastal districts.
Electricity supply was disrupted in several villages of Chikkamagaluru district as poles were uprooted by gusty winds. The water levels in rivers Hemavathi, Bhadra and Tunga have gone up.
In the last 24 hours, Kerekatte received highest of 142 mm rain followed by Kalasa (123.6 mm), Kottigehara (111.4 mm) and Kammaradi (106.7 mm.)
Shivamogga
Incessant rain lashed several parts of Shivamogga district rising water level in various dams. As much as 5,000 cusecs of water was released from six crest gates of Tunga reservoir at Gajnur. In the last 24 hours, Agumbe recorded rain of 172.06 mm and Thirthahalli received 78.8 mm of rain.
Hassan
The district has been receiving widespread rains since the past 24 hours. Strong winds uprooted electricity poles affecting power supply in several villages of the district. There have been no reports of any causalities.
Mangaluru and Udupi
Rain receded in the coastal districts on Saturday. A two-year- old child was washed away in rain water while playing near a waterbody, at Kakkepadavu in Bantwal taluk. The deceased has been identified as Lavanya.
Karkala taluk received 90.25 mm rainfall followed by Udupi-74.20 mm.
Kodagu
Following heavy rain in the last two days, a compound wall fell on a house at Bajpegundi in Somwarpet taluk. Bhagamandala, Napoklu, Shanthalli, Shanivarasanthe has experienced good rainfall.
Uttara Kannada
Heavy rain coupled with strong winds disrupted normal life in Karwar. More than 25 electricity poles were uprooted in Karwar affecting power supply.
Belagavi
Various parts of the district received heavy rain on Saturday. Kanakumbi in Khanapur taluk recorded 10 cm of rain in the last 24 hours. The inflow into Malaprabha and Mahadayi rivers has increased owing to copious rain.
