The Bengaluru City police on Saturday provided security to Chairman of House Committee on Lake Protection K B Koliwad after he claimed threat to his life in the City.

Koliwad had said that he had received a threat call from an anonymous person and hence, needed security. “We have acted on his request and provided the security needed for him,” City Police Commissioner M N Reddi told Deccan Herald.

Koliwad, MLA from Ranebennur in Haveri district, said that he received a call at 3.44 pm on May 29 when he was in Bengaluru. “The caller told that he would murder me. He was speaking in Telugu and Tamil,” the MLA told Deccan Herald.

Koliwad said he decided to approach the police as the caller was referring to his murder. He lodged a complaint with the Sanjaynagar police on June 1 and shared the number used by the caller. He wrote two separate letters to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K J George on June 11 sharing the details and seeking police protection, he added.

He clarified that he did not discuss the matter with the Chief Minister and George in person.

“I had sought security only in Bengaluru and not in my native Ranibennur. The Haveri district SP called me and told me that he would ensure police security in Ranibennur, but I refused as I am always safe there,” Koliwad said.

On the background of the caller, Koliwad said: “I had declared at several platforms that I would ensure stern punishment to land grabbers in Bengaluru. Hence, I suspect the involvement of the land grabbers in giving threat to me.”
