The Karnataka State Bar Council on Monday passed a resolution seeking the resignation of Justice Y Bhaskar Rao as the Lokayukta.

After an emergency meeting of the Council, its President P P Hegde told reporters that an FIR must be registered immediately against Krishna Rao, Ashwin Rao and the Lokayukta Public Relations Officer Syed Riyaz for their alleged role in corruption inside the Lokayukta institution. The important CCTV footage evidence has already been destroyed by the registrar, Lokayukta,” he charged.

“The Council calls upon advocates to boycott all proceedings and events attended by Justice Rao. Advocates will protest against him by showing black flags at the functions he will attend hereafter,” Hegde said.

AAP demand

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday held a protest against the Lokayukta, Justice Y Bhaskar Rao, demanding his resignation.

The party members approached the High Grounds police and demanded that a FIR be registered against Justice Rao’s son and another go-between, Krishna Rao, who allegedly sought bribes from public servants. When the cops refused, the members protested.

“It has been reported in the media that Krishna Rao and Ashwin Rao were demanding bribes from public servants at the Lokayukta’s residence and at his office. Moreover, Justice Rao has admitted that Ashwin Rao is his son. We want the police to register an FIR. We will continue the agitation till the FIR is registered,” AAP’s Karnataka convenor Ravikrishna Reddy said. The High Grounds police said they will have to seek legal opinion to take action.

Meanwhile, a delegation of advocates staged a protest in front of the Lokayukta office. Advocate N P Amrutesh and others, met Justice Rao at his office and demanded that he write to the government recommending a CBI probe into the bribery charges.
