MLA grants only for public purpose: Dr Sudhakar

The legislator was responding to a plea by a member of the public to sanction a community hall at the Janaspandana, a programme to take administration to doorsteps,  held in Mohammedpura in the taluk on Saturday.

Public money

“The funds at the discretion of the legislator is public money. It should be spend for public purposes and not otherwise. I am sanctioning funds for infrastructure facilities such as drinking water, road and classrooms and have not released money for construction of a community hall so far” he clarified.

The MLA, however, promised to grant the financial assistance under Aradhana Yojana.

Referring to demand for construction of buildings for anganwadi centres, Dr Sudhakar said that anganwadi centres across the State require buildings and there has been some respite following implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan by the Education Department.

“There are 60,000 anganwadi centres in the State and 30,000 are in need of building. The government should contemplate on forming a plan on the lines of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to redress scarcity of accommodation,” he opined.

The legislator instructed the officers of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) to ensure that cable wires are not drawn over electric poles and that the defective transformers are replaced well in time.

Housing scheme

While 300 houses have been sanctioned under Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme 200 applications are still pending. Sanctioning houses to people who already possess them would invite disciplinary action, he warned.

As many as 113 complaints were received at the Janaspandana. Sanction letters relating to various welfare schemes were issued to beneficiaries.

Tahsildar Nagaraj, Zilla Panchayat member Shafiquddin, Gram Panchayat president Manjulamma, vice-president Mastan Valli and others were present.
