“ Eight traffickers have been arrested so far and Rs 4.79 lakhs has been recovered from them. The 34 rescued girls, including eight minors, have been rehabilitated in an observation home,” according to the CBI.
In one of their operations, the CBI tracked the route to two hotels in Mumbai’s Vashi area and nabbed the four traffickers. The CBI also rescued two minor girls of a neighbouring country. The operation reveals that the human trafficking is prevailing in Navi Mumbai and Chembur, wherein girls of minor age were being illegally trafficked, according to the CBI.
“These pimps were lodging the girls in inhuman conditions at store houses located at different places in the city. From these places, they used to transfer the girls to the places where the customers wait for them,” said the investigating agency.
Sensing the alarming nature of women trafficking, the Centre had given powers to the CBI to investigate any offence under Section 13(4) of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956, with CBI officers notified as Trafficking Police Officers by the Government of India.
