Oracle India opens PDC at GIFT

Last Updated 16 July 2015, 18:57 IST

Oracle India, part of the $38.23-billion US product software giant Oracle Corporation, on Thursday opened its 10th product development centre (PDC) at the Gujarat International Finance Tech City (GIFT) as part of its 21st year of celebrations in India.

Announcing this in Bengaluru, Oracle Product Development President Thomas Kurian said India employs the company’s second-largest workforce of developers and engineers outside the US.

“The decision to open the 10th development centre shows our commitment to India. It is one of our most important product development centres across the world. The talent here, and the work which teams are doing here, have played a very important role in helping our customers transition to the cloud,” he said.

Company officials, though, did not announce the quantum of investment and the recruitment strategy. According to top India officials, the formal inauguration will happen soon and the new facility will take the company closer to its clients.

Oracle’s India journey started in 1994 with four engineers in Bengaluru, followed by centres in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Noida, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada. The company has a total employee strength of 32,000 across India.

Kurian said there are lots of organisations that want to use Oracle products but are unable to use them because they lack infrastructure.

“We want everyone in the world, as long as they have a Web browser, to be able to run Oracle software, without a datacentre or major investments in hardware and software,” he said.

“Engineered systems and cloud application developments are the exciting journeys in our 21 years of history. India has its footprint in one-third of all innovation happening at Oracle globally,” said Kurian.

The company has invested over $34 billion globally in continued innovation and claims that the investment has been the driving force in the advancement of technology.
