Two foreign nationals are engaged in teaching the children of migrant labourers at Yadthady village near Brahmavar.

Inga Behring from Germany and Angela Garlia, from Spain, are here on an exchange programme in collaboration with Field Service Inter Culture Learning (FSL).

To educate the children of migrant labourers, tent school was started in various parts of the state. After studying in tent school, the children were admitted to the mainstream school. Though such schools are sidelined in the recent years, Kundapur based  NGO Field Service Inter Culture Learning  has been running a school for the migrant children for the last 10 years.

Cleanliness awareness

At present, the tent school has been imparting education to the children of labourers who are on road work at Yadthady. The tent school has been imparting education according to the age of the children. Along with English, various activities are taught to improve their skill and ability. The tent school has also been creating awareness on cleanliness among children as well as among their parents.

The tent schools are also functioning at Doopadakatte, Senapura, Maravanthe and Yadthady. As FSL has entered into an MoU with foreign NGOs, the foreigners come here and engage in teaching the students.

Behring has been teaching at the school for the last 10 months, while Garlia has been here for the last two months. The students are taught English alphabets, numerals, basic mathematics, nursery rhymes and personal hygiene.

Tent School teacher Shalini said that FSL was started in 2001 and has been engaged in social service since them. In the last 10 years, several migrant children have been imparted with free education.
