Intense monsoon in the next two days would bring more rain to central India where spells have turned scantier since the last week of June.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted heavy to very heavy rain over the western region, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha, besides helping to cover the deficit in several subdivisions of the central region.
Heavy rain would particularly lash West Madhya Pradesh, East and West Rajasthan, Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch, Konkon and Goa and coastal Karnataka regions. Heavy to very heavy rain are also expected over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.
Active monsoon over Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh brought rain over central India. Downpours in the last few days has brought down deficit for the season to just five per cent and the situation will only improve if rain continue for the next few days.
The week between July 15-22 has been particularly bad for most of the meteorological subdivisions of the central and western India barring east Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh.
A low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan triggered good rain in the last 24 hours in parts of central India, while a low pressure in Bay of Bengal brought rainfall over eastern India, IMD said.
