The forest department officials on Sunday visited Devagodu where poor siteless people under the aegis of Niveshana Rahithara Horata Samithi had constructed over 200 huts on government land.

More than 400 siteless persons had submitted applications to Heroor gram panchayat seeking sites.

However, the gram panchayat failed to provide plots, alleged Horata Samithi members.
The huts were constructed on Survey Number 108 beside Navodaya Vidyalaya by clearing the bushes and trees.

Zilla Panchayat member Kukkodige Ravindra visited the spot and held discussion with the officials.

The siteless applicants said “we have been seeking sites for the last 10 years. However, the officials have neglected our woes.”

Gram panchayat member Chimmanakodige Nataraj said “We have written to the revenue department to earmark five acres of land for the siteless people. A decision on the same will be taken at a meeting of the officials from revenue department, forest department, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer and assistant commissioner at Heroor gram panchayat on Monday.”
