How about a writing masterclass with Australian journalist, author and teacher Leonie Norrington? Or getting some tips on illustration from Melbourne-based Nicki Greenberg?

The seventh-edition of JUMPSTART 2015 is bringing experts from the publishing, media, education, digital and creative industries to create dialogue and explore the different facets of narrative creation through the intersections of storytelling, imagination, technology and reality that will translate into better content for children.

Organised by the German Book Office(GBO), the event began in 2009 as a series of workshops and seminars mainly focusing on writing and illustrating children’s books, libraries for children and marketing children’s books. The following year, 2010 saw the birth of the current form of festival in Delhi and Bangalore.

“We are here to work with and for people who are in the business of creating content for children across media and, people who will go on to create work that will influence new generations of children. It is critical to create a community of such practitioners so that pioneering and original ideas can be shared and debated in order to improve the quality of content being produced,” said an official statement.

In this one-day workshop, Norrington will show a variety of practical writing techniques that help participants find the voices of their characters and let them speak and
keep faith in them when they hijack the carefully planned plot.

Greenberg will look at a range of visual narrative techniques and help participants in exploring their own personal style and Ameen Haque, founder of StoryWallahs - a company that trains people in the art of storytelling, will address storytelling fundamentals as well as advanced technique in this session.

The JUMPSTART 2015 will take place at India International Centre on August 18.
