The police on Thursday arrested the secretary and headmistress of the private school in Indiranagar where a three-year-old girl was sexually abused on August 3.

The police said Franklin Anil Kumar, secretary, and Sherly Sowjanya, headmistress, were arrested under IPC Sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).

They were produced before a magistrate and were granted bail, the police said.

The duo were booked under Section 188 for not following the child safety guidelines that were issued by the police commissioner in 2014.

The police said certain materials related to the sexual abuse case had been sent to the forensic science laboratory. The report would be available in a couple of days.

The girl, whose parents hail from the Northeast, was sexually abused at the school on Monday.

The watchman - Gowtham, 25 - was arrested the next day after the victim and her elder sister, who also studies in the same school, identified him.

Meanwhile, parents of the victim said that they were being forced to take their daughter home from the hospital, barely three days after she was admitted. The girl is admitted at the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.

“Some of the staffers asked me to take my daughter home on Wednesday itself. On Thursday, they asked me to sign the discharge papers more than three times. My daughter is feeling better no doubt. But, I will not take her home till she completely recovers,” said the mother of the child.

The hospital authorities cited too many visitors for the girl as the reason for them to
ask that she be taken home early.

Only when she complained to Kripa Amar Alva, chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, that the hospital authorities agreed to allow them to stay till Saturday, the girl’s mother said.
