NCB sleuths seize narcotics worth Rs 2.5 lakh; two held

The City team of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized narcotics and drugs worth Rs 2.5 lakh from two peddlers.

The accused Haneef and Pasha were arrested when they received the parcel from a travel agency in Gandhinagar. The parcel was sent over from Mangaluru. The officials seized 102 blot papers, 12 gms of MDMA (Ecstasy) powder, 1 gm ecstasy pills and a small quantity of marijuana from the accused.

A senior official said Haneef, a native of Mangaluru, worked with a multi national company in the City. He was arrested in 2011 by the Central Crime Branch police in the City. “Haneef is one of the major dealers of banned drugs in the City. There was a tip-off about a parcel being booked from a bus service agency in Mangaluru. The parcel, however, had come by a different vehicle. The usual night service bus companies have courier services. When there are more consignments, they avail the services of other courier services. This way, the parcel had reached the bus transport office in Gandhinagar,” the official said.

The NCB officials questioned the duo on Thursday. The next day they produced the duo before the special court. The court remanded the accused in judicial custody for 14 days.
