Last Updated 08 August 2015, 20:31 IST

Hobbies of his wife, including eating at costly restaurants and travelling to hill stations, drove her engineer husband to take the extreme step of killing himself in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur town, about 90 km from here.

According to police sources here, the hubby, who was employed with a public sector company and hailed from Delhi, hanged himself at his residence at Krishna Nagar locality in the town on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Rohit Nagar, left a “suicide note” in which he held his wife responsible for the extreme step, sources said.

Police said Rohit had a heated argument with his wife on Thursday night after he returned home from office. He later closed himself in one of the rooms. His body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the room in the early hours of Friday, police added.

Rohit’s father said his daughter-in-law was extremely fond of eating outside and travelling to tourist spots and she always forced Rohit to take her out.

“I had tried to persuade her to change her attitude but failed,” he said. He also told the cops that barely a few days ago, Rohit had a heated exchange with his wife after the latter insisted on going to Shimla. Rohit’s parents also lodged a complaint against their daughter-in-law with the police accusing her of being responsible for the suicide.
