Amidst the pandemonium, a Congress member standing close to the Speaker’s podium  tore up a piece of paper and threw the bits on Thambidurai, taking him by surprise.

Apparently upset with the member’s behaviour, Thambidurai adjourned the House in a huff, leaving members of the treasury benches, including Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, objecting to the Congressman’s conduct.

“What is happening? How can they tear paper and throw it on the deputy speaker? Look at their conduct,” one of the members of the ruling BJP was heard shouting.

A visibly angry Union Minister Uma Bharati suggested that the Opposition members should not be allowed to enter the well of the House. Congress president Sonia Gandhi was witness to her partyman’s behaviour, while her son and vice-president Rahul Gandhi had just arrived.
