KSCA XI bowlers struck back in fine fashion to reduce DY Patil Academy to 64/4 after the hosts were bowled out for 184 on the opening day of the final of the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah memorial all-India cricket tournament at the M Chinnaswamy stadium on Friday.

After dismissing the home team by the second session, the DY Patil boys couldn’t make their advantage count as R Vinay Kumar and company extracted the most out the slow, turning track that often surprised the batsmen with its awkward bounce.

Vinay had the DY Patil openers Shoaib Shaikh and Gaurav Jathar in all sorts of trouble with his stump-to-stump bowling, while S Arvind kept things tight at the other end with his constant change of pace.

Vinay was the first one to strike as he packed off Shaikh for 11 as the opener mis-read an inswinging delivery, only to see the stump do a cartwheel.

Moments later Arvind had his name mentioned in the wickets column, thanks to a brilliant catch from Vinay in the covers. The lanky medium-pacer dismissed Jathar (2) as Kumar dived on to his right to latch on to what seemed to be a definite boundary.

Later, spinners Shreyas Gopal and J Suchith struck in tandem to help their side make a comeback in the contest.

Abdullah shines
Earlier, Iqbal Abdullah made the most of the spinning track to wrap up KSCA XI for 184. Though Suchith showed some resistance with a cautious 30 (104b, 2x4), there was no stopping the Mumbai left-arm spinner as he ended with the figures of 4/42.

Brief score: KSCA XI: 184 all out (J Suchith 30; Swapnil Singh 3-63, Iqbal Abdullah 4-42) vs DY Patil Academy: 64/ 4 (Vikrant Auti 28 n.o.; Vinay Kumar 1-12, S Arvind 1-12, J Suchith 1-7, Shreyas Gopal 1-20).
