Police step up probe

Last Updated 31 August 2015, 20:55 IST

The special investigating team comprising five inspectors and headed by an ACP on Monday stepped up investigation of the murder of Kalburgi.

It is learnt that the investigating team is getting leads from four angles.
The police have suspected that one of the motives for killing may be property dispute and are contemplating sending a team to Sindhagi, the native of Kalburgi, to find clues on any property dispute within the family regarding the sharing of ancestral property.

The police suspect that the assailants who had come on a bike in the guise of Kalburgi’s students were known to him as he had opened the door and had called one of them inside, even as he talked over his mobile phone. Hence, the police are likely to grill the students of Kalburgi to trace the murderers.

The police have not ruled out the possibility of fringe elements being involved in the incident. Some of the organisations had in the past given a threat call to the writer and the heads of these organisations are likely to be questioned.

Police sources said that in the past, Kalburgi had received a life threat from people of his own community and hence, some of the community leaders would be interrogated.
