Speaking to reporters, KPCC working president D K Shivakumar said as per the tripartite agreement between the BBMP, Karnataka government and the Centre, the funds under JNNURM should be released only when there is an elected council in the BBMP.

“In the absence of elected representatives in the council, why should the money be sanctioned? The government seems to be in no mood to hold elections to the BBMP. We will submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Union Urban Development Minister not to release grants to the BBMP.”

He said nobody knows what the BBMP is up to with the huge funds it is getting from the Centre.
“Recently there were a lot of ‘overnight operations’ in the BBMP. We are not sure whether the money is being utilised or otherwise,” he added.
