Starting Sunday evening, residents of Faridabad can reach Delhi in just 20 minutes through Delhi Metro Rail Corridor (DMRC) newly constructed corridor that is to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier that day.

The Violet Line, Central Secretariat to Badarpur, has been extended to bring the areas of the satellite city on the Metro Map. Nine more stations covering 14 km have been added to the already functional stretch. These are Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar.

Two more stations, NCB Colony and Ballabgarh, have been scheduled to be inaugurated by 2017, said DMRC officials.

After the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the corridor open around noon in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the stretch will be laid open for public at 4 pm.

Earlier this year, the DMRC had opened ITO station. The distance from ITO to Escorts Mujesar can now be covered in nearly one hour and 20 minutes.

One has to pay Rs 28 from Escorts Mujesar to reach ITO station.

The opening of the much-awaited Faridabad corridor will prove to be a boon for the commuters. “At present it takes me nearly three hours to reach my work place in ITO.

With the opening of this corridor it will reduce to half. It’s the best gift from DMRC to office-goers,” said Shalini Jaglan, resident of Sector 16 in Faridabad.

All the nine stations on the section have been provided with Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) so that commuters can easily reach the stations from the nearby areas.

The DMRC has installed solar power generation facilities in all the stations and depot of the Badarpur–Faridabad corridor for the electricity requirements of stations.

“The power generated will be used for the lighting and other auxiliary requirements of the station and depot buildings. The power Receiving Sub Station (RSS) of the Faridabad corridor has already been developed as a green building with a 50 kWp solar plant, rain water harvesting and constructed wet land type of Sewage treatment plant facilities,” said an official.

“These solar power plants with a total generation capacity of 1.9 MWp, have been installed under RESCO (Renewable Energy Supply Company) Model, wherein the capital cost has been invested by the Solar Developer. The DMRC has signed the Power Purchase Agreement for 25 years. The DMRC will only pay energy charges for the actual energy generated,” added the official.
