No respite from rains in N-K dists

There was no let-up from rains in some districts of North Karnataka for the third day on Wednesday.

Basavana Bagewadi in Vijayapura district continued to receive rain for the third day. The showers have filled water bodies. Rainwater gushed into low-lying areas washing away household articles. The rains have triggered agricultural activity and a large number of farmers were seen purchasing seeds and fertilisers.

Several parts of Bagalkot district received rains accompanied by lightning. Badami taluk recorded the highest rainfall of 218 mm as at 8.30 am on Wednesday.  As many as 542 houses in the district have been damaged due to incessant rains lashing the district for the past 10 days.

Man dies in lightning
A person was struck dead by lightening at Parthanahalli village in Athani taluk of Belagavi district. The police have identified the deceased as Yamanappa Kandappa Kamble (65) a resident of Parthanahalli. The incident took place when he was working at field.

Uttara Kannada
Uttara Kannada district received widespread rains on Wednesday. Ten tourists from Hubballi who were stranded in the river at Moulangi village in Dandeli were rescued with the help of police and local rafters.

Shivamogga
Moderate to heavy rains lashed Malnad region on Wednesday. Hosanagar, Thirthahalli, Bhadravathi, some parts of Shivamogga, Sagar and Shikaripur received moderate rains till noon. A good spell of rain lashed Hosanagar taluk for hours together till noon. Water level in Linganamakki dam rose to 1789.60 feet against the maximum level of 1,819 feet.
