When she was a medical student, she never thought she’d be representing India on such a large scale. Currently working as an assistant professor in the Pathology department at Rajarajeswari Medical College, Dr Amrit Kaler holds the crown of Asia Pacific Queen of Substance 2014 and Mrs India Beauty Queen 2015. She will soon represent India at the Mrs United Nations International 2015 in Jamaica.

She says, “It has been an overwhelming feeling till now. The entire journey has been great so far and I look forward to winning the title in Jamaica soon.” Amrit has always been drawn to fashion, but she says she pursed her dreams after getting married. “My husband has been very supportive. He encourages me to take my dreams and goals further and I will forever be grateful to him for that,” she explains.

For her, beauty pageants aren’t about films and glory, but to bring the spotlight on issues the country faces and finding solutions for them. She hopes to connect with the UN about these issues and try and bring some solutions for it as well. “Very often, people talk about issues but due to whatever reason, they don’t get carried forward. I want to help my country become better because I know that we have so much potential to be a greater country; I want us to be listened to,” says Amrit. As a doctor, she hopes to bring in some funds to the country for stem cell transplantation so that they can be used to cure diseases. She also hopes that by bringing down the prices for these operations, many citizens can have access to them for their treatments.

When asked how her life has changed with the titles she has received, she says, “It has been great to know that people look up to me now; that I’ve become a role model for people. It makes me want to improve myself and continue being a good person at heart.”

Originally from Punjab, Amrit moved to Bengaluru after her marriage. Having lived here for 12 years with her family, she says she’s very comfortable with the City. She finds the people very warm, welcoming and professional at the same time. She adds, “I’m proud to say that I will be representing the country from Bengaluru, and I look forward to using my position for the betterment of the nation.”
