The Delhi Police on Friday took Somnath Bharti’s dog “Don” to a veterinary clinic on being informed that the AAP MLA went underground after locking the labrador’s medicines in his personal cabin.

The dog suffers from a heart ailment and has been on medication for quite some time.
“A team from Malviya Nagar police station went to Bharti’s office and took the dog to a clinic in Chanakyapuri. We want to get the dog medically examined during Bharti’s absence,” said a police officer.

The police were told that the dog, who needs medicine thrice a day, will die in three days without medicines.

The dog is suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart’s ability to pump blood is decreased because the heart’s main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, is enlarged and weakened.

In some cases, it prevents the heart from relaxing and filling with blood as it should. A veterinarian treating Don says he would not live for more than six months.

In a 26-page complaint, Bharti’s wife had also stated that Bharti had once set his dog on her when she was seven months pregnant.

The police have also declared the dog to be a case property. “The dog’s denture marks will prove how the accused incited the dog to attack the victim when she was pregnant,” special public prosecutor Shailender Babbar had told a court.
