The State government will come up with a new policy for preventing sexual assault on girls in schools and colleges.
Women and Child Development Minister Umashree told reporters here on Monday that a committee headed by Veeranna Mathikatti had already been constituted to come out with a policy on girl child.
The proposed policy would cover the health, education, skills and other aspects of adolescent girls. The new policy would soon be uploaded on the official website of the department inviting suggestions from public, she said.
The minister said that the government extend a financial assistance of up to Rs 20 lakh for plastic surgery on acid attack victims. Besides, they would be paid a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 under “Sthyrya” programme. The family of the women who die of sexual assault will get an ex gratia of Rs one lakh, she said.
