Farmers' bundh evokes good response in Sringeri, Koppa, NR Pura

Buses were stopped at 10 am in N R Pura. Attendance of students in schools was thin and the situation was the same in banks as well as government offices which had to work with skeletal staff. Hotels remained closed.

Taluk office premises said that ruling party is taking side of the contractors instead of solving the problems of the farmers in the backdrop of Thunga diversion project planned as a part of Bhadra Upper Canal project.

The bundh was total in Koppa with people supporting the bundh voluntarily. Schools and banks were closed in Koppa while government offices remained open for name sake. Private buses did not ply at all. Farmers tried to stop few government buses, which were plying. Since all hotels remained closed tourists had to face inconvenience.

However, most of the tourists were seen having food at the Mutt itself. Bundh was successful even in Balehonnur.  To avoid any untowards incidents in the area, security was beefed up in the city.

A large number farmers, specially those who have faced wrath of Yellow Leaf Disease took part in the protest rally and shouted out slogans against the anti-farmer policies of the government.

“Centre and State must waive off loans of the farmers and provide compensation for crop loss. Loan waiver is not a alms that government if offering to the farmers. It is the right of the farmers,” farmers said.

Farmer leaders K T Gangadhar Kanburu, Shantha Kumar, Haranahalli Basavaraj, Nempe Devaraj, Sudhir Kumar Murolli, K C Sathish, D B Rajendra, Karavane Naveen, S D Hairsh, Congress leader J G Venkatesh, A S Nagesh, H M Sathish, Sachin Meega, G G Shobith, JD(S) Leader H T Rajendra, K S Manjunath, B P Jayesh, Murthi Nayak and others were present.

NR Pura

Bundh saw success in N R Pura as well. At about 11 am farmers in large numbers gathered outside Pravasi Mandir and took out a procession till Town Panchayat office. Later a meet was held at the Taluk Office premises. District Raitha Sangha President Maluru Dinne Vinayak said that farmers are compelled to stage protests demanding for their rights due to the administrative failures of the government.

Taluk JD(S) President M R Ravishankar said that they would lock Mescom office if government does not solve electricity problems in one day.

Congress Leader K M Gangadhar said that S M Krishna Government provided electricity even when there was drought but this government has failed to provide electricity even when there is good rainfall.

Congress Leader Dr Anshuman, B S Subramanya, JD(S) Leader D C Divakar, S S Shantha Kumar and others were present.
