The Parappana Agrahara police arrested a serial jewellery thief and seized two kilo gram of gold ornaments worth Rs 60 lakh and an SUV.

Anand Nagaraju, 28, had recently made off with 1.5 kg of gold ornaments from Davanam Jewellers in the Commercial Street Police Station limits.

He is a resident of C K Palya, Bannerghatta Road and drove a Scorpio, which he used to hide out in to survey jewellery stores. He is involved in several thefts at various jewellery outlets in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

He was booked under the Goonda Act by the Hosur Town police in Tamil Nadu and was sent to jail. He served time in the Central Prisons at Salem for seven months and was released on bail, said the police.

Nagaraju would survey jewellery outlets during the day and strike at night. He would break open locks of shutters, gain entry into the shop, burgle ornaments and disappear. He would then pledge the ornaments elsewhere. He had bought the SUV to aid him in thefts, said the police.

A team of cops from Parappana Agrahara police were tipped off about Nagaraju’s movement on Hosur Road on Thursday.

The cops spotted him surveying a jewellery outlet. They surrounded his vehicle and took him into custody. He confessed to the thefts .
