Varshini emerges champion

 Varshini V of Tamil Nadu emerged champion with a round to spare in the girls section of the 26th National Open and girls under-17 chess championships here on Saturday.

Varshini overcame Aditee Prabhgaonkar of Goa in the 10th round to take her tally to an unassailable 9.5 points.

Meanwhile in the Open section, West Bengal’s Rajdeep Sarkar and Vaishali R of Tamil Nadu shared the top spot with eight points each at the end of 10th round.
