Woman running ganja racket, 3 aides held

A woman and her three male accomplices, who had stocked 21 kg of ganja at a house in Cottonpet and were peddling it to college students, youths and even jail inmates, have landed in police custody.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru police said it arrested Venilla, 48, and her accomplices, Appu, 24, Manjunath, 33 and Vinod Kumar, 27, by raiding a house at Anjanappa Garden in Cottonpet. Sleuths are said to have seized 21 kg ganja worth Rs 3.25 lakh, two mobile phones and Rs 1,800 in cash from them.

According to the CCB, the house was raided following a tip-off from some inmates of Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara. The inmates gave CCB sleuths names and address of the ganja peddlers. The sleuths kept a watch on Venilla’s house. The woman was running the racket and had recently bought the house for Rs 45 lakh. She didn’t have any other source of income. “Our sources confirmed that ganja was being supplied from Venilla’s house, so we raided it,” said a senior police officer.

The suspects were peddling the illegal drug near colleges, pubs and bars.
