Karnataka to get Rapid Action Force platoon soon

Last Updated 16 October 2015, 19:46 IST

The Centre is likely to sanction a platoon of Rapid Action Force (RAF) to Karnataka shortly. “We are in touch with the Central government and are confident of getting an RAF platoon for the State,” DG&IGP Om Prakash said.

Addressing reporters here on Friday, Om Prakash said one of the requirements for acquiring an RAF platoon is an independent piece of 50 acres of land. “We have already purchased about 48 acres of land in Mangaluru. We have also carried out correspondence with the Central agencies in this regard. We might get a communique soon about sanctioning of the platoon,” he said.

Talking about security arrangements for the upcoming festive week, the DG said the police would take all measures to ensure peace and harmony in the state. “There are alerts about terrors attacks, but such alerts are routine. There is no specific threat perception or alert to Bengaluru City as such,” he clarified.

ADGP (Law and Order) Alok Mohan, however, said that Bengaluru happens to be one of the major targets by terror outfits. Hence, there is always a threat. “The Department will take all measures to thwart any attempt to spread violence and disturb peace and harmony during the festive season,” he added.
