Comed-K sources said a candidate, Rajneesh K R from Delhi was caught for appearing instead of Sravan Shetty. After an investigation, Comed-K invigilator Dr Narendra Shetty, found that Sravan Shetty and his family had allegedly requested for the service through a mail sent to bholachandu@yahoo.co.in “It appears that the boy has accessed an e-mail ID and sent a request for impersonation to an unknown person,” he said.

‘Service charge’

Sravan reportedly confessed to the invigilator that he got the e-mail ID from his friends.

Dr Shetty, in his report has stated that Rajneesh appeared in place of Sravan, for a sum of Rs 30,000 per paper. Rajneesh managed to escape after being caught by the vigilance squad.

Comed-K officials strongly suspect an organised racket behind the impersonation.

However, refuting the allegations, Sravan’s father said, “My son just lost his hall ticket. I do not know who has impersonated my son.”

Stray incidents?

Meanwhile impersonation cases were also reported during Common Entrance Test. CET officials said that three such cases came to light this year, including that of a girl. The case of Neha Shukla, a student from Uttar Pradesh, has already alerted the State about girls getting involved in impersonation cases. But the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has dismissed these cases as stray incidents and not part of any organised racket.

But former KEA Administrative Officer, Syed Jamal said such instances of impersonation were happening for a long time. “The cases of impersonation are mainly to stake claim for management seats,” he said.

Jamal recalled that the KEA had introduced deterrents against such impersonations. “We had the candidates’ thumb impressions on hall tickets to keep the imposters at bay,” he said.
