Pending dream comes true

Last Updated 04 February 2010, 11:00 IST

Scores of films get made, sealing the fate of many newcomers. It is another matter that many of these films don’t get to see the light of the day. One such film is Janani, which features newcomer Shiva. Most of us may have forgotten, but Shiva, who is actually Abdulla, invested in the film which was completed way back in 2003. Janani, starring the latest hotcake Prakash Rai among others, languished in the cans all these years. Now, the film will be released soon. At the audio release held recently, Abdulla confessed, “I am not a good actor and may have made mistakes. But the story is good and the film is made well.”

“I didn't have any money left by the time the first print was ready. And I couldn't release the film right then because of this,” the producer-actor recalled.

For director Rajkumar, Janani is truly the first ever film he has directed. Son of the late producer Chandulal Jain,  Rajkumar has produced films like Sangrama, Yuddhakanda and Abhijit. The son wants to realise his father's dream of making a Hindi film, Videshi for which Chandulal Jain had readied the script. Now that Mumbai has shown some interest, the film may go on the floors soon. Apart from this film, Rajkumar is also thinking of making another Kannada film along with actor Mohan.

The songs of the film were screened on the occasion where Lahari Audio's Velu expressed his displeasure over the film chamber's attitude, in not inviting him to a meeting held to discuss the issue of copyright. By the time Khushboo, erstwhile dream girl of Kannada fans, and Abdulla's sister, arrived, all that was there to be said of the film had been said. Khushboo made it clear that her brother hadn't asked her for any help and she was proud of him for finally realising his dream on his own. Producer B N Gangadhar launched the music of Janani.

Mohan, who began writing lyrics with this film, chose to dwell on his journey since then, penning lyrics for close to 50-60 films. He was also happy with composer Asif Ali's work and promised a very wonderful second half  of the film!
