The famous Bisi Oota is not the only incentive for children going to Government schools anymore. With the proposed bicycles, text books and uniforms, students now have more to look forward.

The BJP government had promised in the 2008 and 2009 budgets to provide free bicycles, books and uniforms to Government schools on the first day of academic year. To motivate students to continue education and to increase the enrollment ratio, the Government decided to provide mid-day meals to all classes along with provision of textbooks and uniforms.

Mid-day meals

On the preparations for the first day of academic year, P R Venkatesh, headmaster, Government High School, Cholanayakanahalli said, “The Education department had sent textbooks, uniforms and bicycles for the students last week itself. The mid-day meal scheme will also begin on the first day. Bicycles will be provided to high school students both girls and boys, promoted from eighth to ninth Standard.”

The headmaster said, 50 bicycles, 19 for girls and 31 for boys will be distributed on the first day at the Government High School.

Besides, to ensure full attendance on the first day, as well as throughout the year, the teachers visited students’ houses to enlighten their parents about the importance of education for their wards.
