BFC rope in young defender

 Bengaluru Football Club (BFC), on Friday, announced the signing of young defender Salam Ranjan Singh, on an year-long loan from Pune FC.

“We have signed a competitive central defender who, we believe, has all the attributes to become a solid reliable defender and one that we can develop to strengthen our squad to make competition for places even tougher,” said the BFC head coach Ashley Westwood.

Ranjan was part of the Pune side that won two back-to-back I-League U-20 titles in 2012 and 2013. A versatile player who can fill in at full-back positions. Ranjan also has a few I-League games under his belt.

Pune-bound

The Bengaluru side, comprising mainly of under-19 players, will be competing in the DSK Invitational Cup.

The team, led by defender Curtis Osano and with assistant coach Pradhyum Reddy at the helm, will take on Pune FC in their first group game on Saturday, whihc alos includes Gangtok Himalayan Sports Club.

 Summer signings Kim Song-Yong and Alwyn George too are part of the squad while NS Manju, Vishal Kumar and Beikhokhei Beingaichho complete the list of first team players who have made the trip to Pune.

The twelve-team tournament will see participation from Salgaocar, Dempo, hosts and reigning champions DSK Shivaijians among others.
