Swachh M'luru Abhiyan spreads awareness about hygiene

The 24th Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan was carried out by Ramakrishna Mission in Jeppu area on Sunday. Swami Buddhidananda of Ramakrishna Mutt, Chennai and Mangalore International Airport former Director M R Vasudev flagged off the drive here.

Swami Jitakamananda and Member of Legislative Council  Capt Ganesh Karnik and Corporator Premananda Shetty were present.

Volunteers, disciples of Ramakrishna Mission, NSS students , Red Cross members and students of Government First Grade College, Car Street, members of Nivedita Balaga, participated in the drive.

The footpath from Car Street in Mangaladevi to Jeppu which was filled with garbage, and construction debris and wooden logs were cleared by the volunteers during the drive.  using the excavator.

The weeds were removed. and two heaps of garbage cleared.

Due to the lack of proper direction boards, motorists and pedestrians especially coming from outside were facing problem in the area.

About nine direction/sign boards were erected at different locations for the benefit of the pedestrians and motorists. Two circles were also repainted by the volunteers.

The bus shelter in front of Cassia High School in Jeppu too was cleaned, and the message, ‘Satyam – Shivam – Sundaram’ was painted in the bus stand creating awareness among the public about hygiene.

Volunteers also distributed the Swacch Mangaluru awareness pamphlets among the public on the occasion.
