The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday extended the stay, till November 16, on the charge sheet and the summons issued by the lower court against Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda's son D S Karthik Gowda.

A case has been registered against Karthik, accusing him of kidnap, rape and cheating actress Maitreya Gowda. Justice Rathnakala extended the stay on the charge sheet filed against Karthik by the R T Nagar police on September 18, 2015.

Karthik, in the petition, stated that the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACCM) court had issued summons asking him to personally appear before the court on December 18, 2015 for the hearing.

Karthik has contended that the actress has filed a case of kidnap, rape and cheating, however the charge sheet is filed only for cheating under section 417 of the Indian Penal Code, which talks about cheating.  Karthik has sought for quashing of the charge sheet and the summons issued against him in the lower court.  The bench extended the stay granted to him till November 16 and adjourned the hearing. Karthik Gowda is set to get married on October 30 at Kushalnagar in Kodagu district.

Stay on Vishnu memorial

The High Court on Wednesday granted stay on the construction of a memorial in the name of actor late Vishnuvardhan.

Veteran Kannada actor late T N Balakrishna’s sons B Ganesh and Srinivas had approached the High Court stating that the land granted for construction of Vishnuvardhan Memorial belongs to their father.

The petitioners have contended that the State government had granted 10 acres of land located in Mylasandra, Kengeri Hobli in 1965 for setting up a studio.

The petitioners have contended that the two acres of land granted for the construction of the memorial is illegal and have sought directions to stay the construction and quash the government notification granting the land for the memorial.

Justice Ananda Byrareddy granted stay on the construction and adjourned the hearing.
