Style, seduction too less words to define Charles

Main aur Charles
Hindi, Cast: Randeep Hooda, Adil Hussain and Richa Chadha
Director: Prawaal Raman

Get a feel of Farhan Akthar’s cat-and-mouse chase in Don and its sequel with a sensuous Emraan Hashmi touch in this portrayal of Hooda.

He can better be termed a bitter gourd wrapped in a colourful cellophane paper. While this ‘Robinhood’ takes care of your sugar level on one the hand, he makes it a point his khaki customers and mediapersons get a better display of his taste. No spoiler alert, sorry.

Based on international criminal Charles Sobhraj’s Tihar jailbreak and his other infamous deeds, director Prawaal Raman presents a good, attractive and sensuous portrayal of Charles.

But the ‘Main’ in the story, Delhi cop Amod Kant (Adil Hussain), leaves all styles and seductive looks of Hooda behind with his expressions, dialogues and attitude.

Although the story seems a bit garbled in the beginning and beating around the bush with too much style other than the bellbottom trousers and retro haircut, it grips you as it progresses. Richa Chadha as Mira is thoroughly convincing and she yet again proves her quality in acting.

But the most interesting part of the movie is unbeaten and dominating partnership of the out-of-the-box cinematography by Anuj Dhwan with the thumping background score by Aditya Trivedi. “Trust me”, you will fall for it.

Well, people who say “trust me”, are those our Kant saab hates. One such user is the jailor (played by Vipin Sharma). Watch the expressions he delivers when interrogated…sheer class! Anyone from the 80s, who knows the Sobhraj case well, would definitely find many flaws in the movie with its story and execution, but unaware of his crimes, if you watch it, even then, cars to dresses, to bikes and at times hairstyle would leave you disappointed provided you have an eye to notice the flaws and not hypnotised by Hooda. Alert women and girl: Leave your men behind before watching this. Your men or boys may catch you staring at Hooda!!
