Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra opens

The UGC approved Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra was inaugurated  at St Aloysius College in Mangaluru on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the purpose of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra, was to impart practical knowledge to people with a degree certificate in order to create large number of employment opportunities.

He said, those who have practical knowledge lack degrees or a certificate for them to apply for a job and those who have degrees rarely have practical knowledge. The youth should take responsibility to recognise and popularise skill -oriented education.

Mangalore University Registrar T D Kemparaju said that the centre will give an opportunity for students to take up a parallel course. St Aloysius Institutions Rector  Rev Fr Denzil Lobo, opined that the challenge was to prepare the youth to compete at the global level.”

Registrar of St. Aloysius College Dr A M Narahari said, St Aloysius College is one of 48 institutions approved by the UGC in the country.

“The innovative scheme provides opportunity for those students who have been deprived of higher education for getting skill-based, job-oriented degrees under the title “BVoc” (Bachelor of Vocation). The uniqueness of the degree is that it has multiple exit points with job opportunity at each stage. The course has been designed to provide skill education with hands on experience. The Course has four stages with six semesters,” he explained.

“St. Aloysius College has been approved to start 3 programmes under BVoc—Retail Management, Food Processing and Engineering andPharmaceutical Chemistry. The courses have been identified based on the skill-gap study and the job opportunities in Dakshina Kannada. The “Community College” Scheme has already been sanctioned to the college with more than 50 students benefitting from two programmes— Computer Animation and Multi Media and Travel and Tourism,” he added.  Minister Ramanath Rai inaugurated the new auditoriums at the college.
