Underworld don Chhota Rajan is likely to be flown to New Delhi from Indonesia on Thursday and the Central Bureau of Investigation will keep him in its custody for some time before handing him over to the Mumbai Police and other agencies for investigation in their cases.

Rajan, who was apprehended last week in Indonesia's Bali, is likely to be flown here on Thursday with officials expecting that the Bali airport will reopen by then. He was to be deported on Tuesday but a large ash cloud drifting from Mount Rinjani, an active volcano, on a nearby island of Bali forced the shutting down of the airport, delaying the process by two days.

Indonesian authorities have told Indian officials that no flights would take off from the Bali airport till 8.45 AM on Thursday and they would have to wait till then, official sources said.

Rajan was arrested in Bali on his arrival from Australia on October 25 and is wanted in over 75 heinous crimes ranging from murder to extortion, smuggling and drug trafficking.

Keeping the security scenario in mind, security officials have also decided not to take Rajan, who faces threat from Dawood Ibrahim's gang, directly to Mumbai from Indonesia.
