Stay cool in wool

When the weather outside indicates sweltering summer or humid monsoon, the sight of executives in stylish suits is often bemusing. They wear it with ease, without giving away any hint of discomfort. Their sartorial choice could be labelled as ingenuous, but in this case it is the fabric that has woven this turnaround story. This trans-seasonal fabric is better known as Merino wool, an anomaly when it comes to characteristics of wool.

“It’s so hot here that if Indians had a choice they would go out with minimal layer of clothing. The fabric maintains an enduring drape and shape the whole day, even under the warmest climates,” says designer Suket Dhir. What one needs to understand is that Merino wool keeps one warm in winter, but its high-performance attributes also keep one cool in summer. Hence, enhanced technological treatments make it ideal for warmer climates and transitional seasons. It is ideal for globetrotters and people who want to wear wrinkle-free clothes.“The material does not crush easily even after getting stretched by the body movements as its natural elasticity allows it to return to its original shape.

The garment’s shape and quality does not suffer by rough and tough use,” says designer Rahul Mishra. Most fibres have a tendency to stick to the skin, but with Merino wool garments travellers can leave home this stress and travel with ease and comfort. “The material breathes, making it ideal for active wear,” says designer Gaurav Jai Gupta. However, this wool is heavy on the pocket, but designers claim that the fabric is better than wearing synthetic counterparts. “Wool apparels generally live long. This one too does, but it also comes with the idea of sustainability and reusability, so the end product is worth the price,” says Dhir.
