Railways to set up vocational training institute in Udupi

Last Updated 06 November 2015, 20:52 IST

The Indian Railways will soon set up a vocational training institute in Udupi to help its large workforce hone their skills.

The institute will be named after the late Ramakrishna Hegde, the first non-Congress chief minister of Karnataka.

“The foundation stone for the Ramkrishna Hegde Institute for Vocational Training will be laid soon,” Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said here.

Last week, Prabhu had honoured ailing leader George Fernandes by laying the foundation stone for an institute for tunnel technology at Margao in Goa. This institute will be the first of its kind in the country and only the second in the world.
