Continuous rain affects normal life

Trees and houses bore the brunt of continuous rain that pounded the region from the last three days.

A number of houses have collapsed and trees have been uprooted by the rain causing inconvenience to people.

A landslide was reported at Nimbekatte forest area. Huge trees, which have been uprooted, are causing traffic disruption on the Ponnachi-Marur Road.

As a tree fell across the road, people going towards Jayammanadoddi, Asthuru, Ichalagabbe, Marur, Ramegowdanadoodi and other villages were affected. The villagers had to walk 12 km to reach their destinations. Meanwhile, the residents charged that officials have not taken any steps to clear the route even after two days. They demanded immediate action to clear the route for easy movement of people and vehicles.

Devotees who had arrived at Male Mahadeshwara (M M) Hill to participate in the Deepavali fair too were affected due to continuous rain. A shamiyana, erected to mark the occasion, could not withstand the rain leaving the devotees in queues drenched.
