A black kite which had been trapped for over a week inside a chink created for water pipes was rescued and released on Wednesday in Chamrajpet.

The rescuers took two hours to free the bird which was released immediately after. The adult kite fell down a 20 ft deep, narrow space created to access water pipes of a house. Bhadrinath Karpur, the owner of the house recalled that two pigeons had been trapped in a similar manner earlier and had died. Karpur said, “I saw the bird trapped in the gap last week. I thought it would fly off on its own. But on Wednesday, I noticed that the bird was still there. Fearing that it might face a similar fate as the pigeons, I got the bird rescued.”

Somu, the chief rescuer at People for Animals, used a ladder to climb down the gap and bring the bird out. He said that the bird was really weak as it had not eaten in the past week and was thirsty.

The rescuers fed the kite with meat and water and examined it for injuries. Finding the bird uninjured, they released it immediately after.
