Twenty five out of the 30 districts in Odisha have been affected by the drought this year following a weak monsoon, the state government said on Monday.

The Odisha government submitted an interim memorandum to the Centre seeking an assistance of Rs 1,687 crore to handle the situation.

“We have submitted an interim report to the Union government on the drought. The copies of the memorandum have been sent separately to  Home as well as the Agriculture Ministry,” Special Relief Commissioner P K Mohapatra told reporters here.

“The crop-cutting process is presently on in different districts. Once it is over, we will be sending a final drought report by December end,” he added.
