The world boxing body on Wednesday disbanded Boxing India (BI) and asked the ad-hoc committe to organise election for a new national federation.

BI had lost its power sometime back as world body AIBA had given the power to run the sport in India to an ad-hoc panel which also has SAI director general Injeti Srinivas.

"Based on Ad-Hoc Committee Report, AIBA President Dr CK Wu, in due consultation and agreement with AIBA Executive Committee Bureau, has now directed Ad Hoc Committee (ADC) to organise elections for a new National Federation with cooperation of all the national stakeholders," said an official statement.

"Further, AIBA has excluded Boxing India as member federation and has clarified that any new member federation must apply for membership in accordance with the AIBA statutes."
AIBA has also directed the ad-hoc panel to communicate to all the relevant stakeholders and invite all the eligible bodies to participate in the election.

The details regarding election process, list of delegates/ candidates and the agenda etc will be reviewed by AIBA which would then advise the panel to proceed ahead with the election process. "Additionally, ADC has agreed with the suggestion to start with the domestic national meets circuit to allow boxers to showcase their skills."

A recent joint meeting of ad-hoc panel and AIBA’s Coordination Board has also planned a tentative calendar activities for the 2015-16 season.
