A man strangled his wife to death suspecting her fidelity at their home in Devanahalli on Wednesday night.

The suspect Shabbir Pasha, 22, a resident of Devanahalli, is employed at the Kempegowda International Airport’s  maintenance department.

According to the police, Pasha picked a fight with his wife Irshiya over her alleged extramarital affair and murdered her. The police arrested him soon after the murder came to light. He has been remanded in judicial custody.

Pasha married Irshiya seven months ago after a brief courtship. Soon differences cropped up between them. Pasha noticed that Irshiya’s mobile was always busy. She never responded to his repeated calls and that was enough for him to suspect she had an affair with another man. The couple would fight often over the issue and had not compromised despite efforts by the elders and their family friends, said the police.

Pasha returned home late on Wednesday night and found his wife talking on the phone. He snatched the mobile and tried to check the call details, but she chased him and grabbed the handset. In a fit of anger, Pasha  pushed her down, strangled her and fled, said the police.

The murder came to light on Thursday morning after the neighbours grew suspicious as the door of the couple’s house was partially open. They entered the house and found Irshiya’s body lying on the floor and alerted the police. The police suspected Pasha’s involvement as he was at large and arrested him within hours on the outskirts of Devanahalli, said the police.

Pasha confessed to the crime during investigation and was produced before the magistrate. He was remanded in judicial custody, said the police.

Dacoity bid foiled
The CCB police arrested notorious history-sheeter Raghavendra and his four associates and foiled their attempt to commit dacoity and robbery on Thursday night.

The suspects have been identified as Raghavendra, 29, a resident of Bhuvaneshwarinagar; Harish, 27, KS Layout;  Venkatesh, 27, Kengeri; Gururaj, 18, Mallathalli; and Akash Raj, 29, Kengeri. The police seized lethal weapons and a car from them.

On a tip-off, the police raided a location on Dubasipalya service road in Kengeri and arrested the suspects. They had planned to attack motorists late in the night, said the police.

Raghavendra is involved in murder, dacoity, assaults and extortion cases in Kengeri and Jnanabharathi police limits.

He was booked under the Goonda Act in 2013 and imprisoned in Ballari jail for nine months. He, however, continued his criminal activities after his release from the jail, said the police.
