Writer S L Bhyrappa on Sunday advised people to raise their voice without any fear to avail services at the government hospitals.

Addressing the gathering after dedicating the Kannada version of a book on diabetes jointly authored by Dr V Lakshminarayan and his son Dr Sooraj Tejasvi, at Rani Bahadur auditorium here, Bhyrappa said, “Such is the situation that even middle class people and the poor are forced to pay at the government hospitals to avail services. Earlier, it was only at private hospitals that one had to pay for services.”

Bhyrappa attributed the present situation to medical profession turning commercial with few inept people bringing disrepute to the profession for the sake of minting money.
He said, “When this is the situation, tax payers should be bold enough to seek their due facilities.”

Bhyrappa lauded the authors (of the book) for enriching Kannada literature by recording medical terms in Kannada. Earlier, former governor M Rama Jois said that doctors should also take interest in literature by contributing towards medical science.

Jois said, “Though medical science literature are enormously published in English, still there is a dearth of such works in Kannada that could reach the common man.”

Jois advised people in particular to keep good health by adopting healthy practices.
Elaborating on the book, former chairman of Kuvempu Bhasha Bharati Pradhan Gurudutt described it as a must read for providing valuable inputs for better lifestyle. It stands as a model to other literary works on medical science, he added.
