Kannada actor Huccha Venkat was released from jail on Wednesday evening after the president of the Rajya Vokkaligara Hitharakshana Sena paid the surety amount and completed the bail formalities.

According to the police, Mylanahalli Manje Gowda, president of the organisation, who is based in Hassan, approached the City Civil Court and completed the bail formalities. The papers were produced at the Parappana Agrahara Central jail. Officials checked the same and released Venkat at around 7 pm.

Speaking to mediapersons, Venkat apologised for his remarks on Dr B R Ambedkar and asked for people’s forgiveness.

“On November 25, the court gave me bail, but no one came forward to pay Rs 25,000 as surety amount and the formalities were not completed. On Wednesday evening, the bail was granted after Gowda approached the court and completed the required formalities. I spent more than two weeks in jail,” he said.

Venkat was arrested after a group of students lodged a complaint at the Jnanabharathi police station. He was accused of making derogatory remarks against Dr B R Ambedkar during a panel discussion on a TV channel. He was arrested on November 20 and was remanded in judicial custody.
