<p> A constable attached to the Ulsoorgate police station in the City was arrested for graft. <br /><br />The constable, H C Hanumantharaya, was arrested red-handed by the Lokayukta police while accepting the bribe from a jeweller to release him from police detention.</p>.<p><br />Police said the complainant, Vinod Jain, owns a jewellery shop in the City. A person by name Naresh had visited his shop and placed an order for the jewellery with specific request for only 50 per cent gold purity. <br /><br />The Ulsoorgate police summoned Vinod stating that a finance institution had filed a complaint about pledging of fake gold.<br /><br />“It was found that Naresh had pledged the gold with only 50 per cent purity at a finance institution and taken loan. The police questioned Naresh, who in turn said, it was Vinod who manufactured the gold. Despite giving a statement that it was manufactured on the request of Naresh, Vinod was detained and asked to pay the bribe. Police Sub-Inspector Kiran, constable Umashankar and Hanumantharaya had demanded Rs 50,000 from Vinod,” an official said.<br /><br />According to a senior Lokayukta police official, Vinod was to catch a flight for Delhi to see his ailing mother. However, Hanumantharaya insisted for the bribe. Vinod filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police on Wednesday and a trap was laid. <br /><br />Hanumantharaya was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 at Kilari Road near Avenue Road on Wednesday evening.<br /></p>
