Salary of docs working in rural areas may be hiked: Minister

Addressing the reporters at Golf Maidan helipad on his arrival to Madikeri on Monday, he said that a condition is being imposed on doctors who are being newly recruited that they should work in rural area for a period of 6 years, mandatorily but unfortunately most of the doctors are still migrating towards cities. To prevent this migration, the Government has now decided to hike the pay for doctors by Rs 10,000.

There are as many as 2,000 vacancies for doctors in the State and at present 1,337 doctors have been appointed. He said that the orders will be issued to the doctors selected.

Amendment
He said that Government has decided to amend the recruitment rules during budget session so as to make way for direct recruitment of doctors to the existing vacant posts. The decision has been agreed by CM as well.

“Specialists are not willing to come for Government services, despite offering to pay Rs 50,000 as salary. To solve this problem permanently, government has decided to make amendments to the recruitment rules,” he said.

He said that 76th Akhila Bharat Kannada Sahithya Sammelan to be held on February 19 in Gadag will be held with all pomp and gaiety and the preparatory meetings have been held to make arrangements for food and stay of all the litterateurs will be taking part in the programme, he said as Welcome Committee President of the Sammelan.
